Run For Our Lives – Ryan Mains

Running to raise awareness and support for Firefighter PTSD and Suicide

Ryan Mains is a 14 year firefighter/paramedic with the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District in Woodstock, IL and a founding member of Woodstock Career Firefighters Local 4813.

In 2016, Ryan Mains was diagnosed with PTSD.

In April 2019, his wife called the Illinois Firefighter Peer Support Hotline and later he was admitted to the International Association of Firefighters Center of Excellence for inpatient treatment for his PTSD.

Since coming home from The Center Ryan has been looking for a way to pay forward the help he, and his family, received prior to and after his time there.

By organizing Run For Our Lives, we are hoping to bring awareness of Firefighter PTSD and suicide through Ryan’s battles with the disease.  We will be raising funds for Illinois Firefighter Peer Support whose guidance ultimately saved Ryan from becoming a firefighter suicide statistic.

On May 22, 2021 Ryan will be running one kilometer for every firefighter who dies by suicide in 2019.

A virtual run will start March 1st for runners no matter where you live who would like to raise money and support alongside us while running to shine a light on this first responder mental health epidemic. Register for the Virtual Run Today!
